Happy birthday to Gianni Bugno who was born in this day in 1964.
The Italian rider is regarded as one of the most versatile riders of his day – capable of winning both Grand Tour events, as well as "one-day" classics.
Indeed, Bugno won the 1991 World Championship Road Race in front of Steven Rooks of Holland and Miguel Indurain of Spain. And, the following year, he again won the World Championship Road Race, in front of Laurent Jalabert of France and Dimitri Konyshev of Russia.
In addition, Bugno was 2nd in the 1991 Tour de France behind Miguel Indurain of Spain and 3rd in the 1992 Tour de France behind Miguel Indurain of Spain and Claudio Chiappucci of Italy.
He won the 1990 Giro d’Italia in front of Charly Mottet of France and Marco Giovannetti of Italy, along with the Points Jersey.
In 1990, Bugno won the Milan-San Remo Classic, followed by the San Sebastian Classic in 1991 and the Tour of Flanders Classic in 1994.
